Tarrytown

Tarrytown is one of Austin's most storied residential neighbourhoods — a tree-canopied enclave of stately homes between MoPac, Lake Austin Boulevard, and Exposition Boulevard that has been home to some of the city's most prominent families for nearly a century. Walking its streets feels like stepping into a different era of Austin: deep lots, broad lawns, stone walls, and houses that range from 1930s Tudor revivals to modern Hill Country estates. The neighbourhood is bisected by several significant streets — Windsor Road, Exposition Boulevard, and Pecos Street — each with its own character. Schools are a primary draw — Tarrytown is zoned to Austin ISD's Casis Elementary, a high-performing campus with an active parent community, and O. Henry Middle School. Many families also choose the private school route, with St. Andrew's Episcopal School located within the neighbourhood. Tarrytown's appeal is old-money Austin at its most graceful: quiet streets under towering oaks, proximity to Lady Bird Lake and the rowing docks, and a residential confidence that comes from being established long before "old Austin vs. new Austin" became a conversation.
