About North Loop

North Loop is a compact, character-rich strip of Austin that punches far above its size. Centred on the block of North Loop Boulevard between Burnet Road and Airport Boulevard, the neighbourhood has become one of Austin's most beloved vintage and small-business corridors — a place where you can buy a first-pressing vinyl at Breakaway Records, a mid-century Danish credenza at Room Service Vintage, and a pour-over at Epoch Coffee without crossing the street. The commercial strip is small — maybe eight blocks end to end — but every storefront counts. Treasure City Thrift draws crate-diggers and costume hunters. The Parlour Salon caters to the neighbourhood's creative class. Drink.Well serves craft cocktails in a bungalow setting. And the perpetually packed Thunderbird Coffee has been fuelling North Austin's freelancers since before remote work was cool. Residential streets surrounding the strip are a mix of 1940s-50s bungalows and ranch homes, many still affordable by Central Austin standards. The neighbourhood is zoned to Austin ISD and sits near several well-regarded elementary schools. Its flat, bikeable terrain and proximity to the Crestview MetroRail Station make it one of the more car-optional neighbourhoods in the city. North Loop's vibe is intentionally anti-corporate — independently owned businesses dominate, chain stores are virtually nonexistent, and the overall aesthetic is more "vintage Austin" than "new Austin." That's not to say it's frozen in time; new bars and shops continue to open, and property values have risen significantly. But the neighbourhood has managed to retain a scruffy, creative energy that most of Austin's more polished districts have long since traded away. If Crestview is the neighbourhood hipsters move to when they grow up, North Loop is where they hang on to their record collections.
