About Allandale

Allandale is the kind of Central Austin neighbourhood that rewards patience with discovery. Bounded roughly by Anderson Lane, Burnet Road, 2222, and Shoal Creek, it doesn't have a trendy commercial strip or an Instagram-famous mural — what it has is one of the most liveable residential environments in the city, with tree-lined streets, affordable (for Central Austin) homes, and a location that puts you ten minutes from almost anywhere. The housing stock is predominantly 1950s and 60s ranch-style homes — single-story brick and wood-frame houses on modest lots with mature pecan, oak, and cedar trees. The neighbourhood has seen significant renovation activity over the past decade, with many owners updating interiors while preserving the original mid-century footprint. A growing number of teardown-rebuilds have brought modern construction to the area, but the overall character remains comfortably suburban and shaded. Allandale's proximity to Burnet Road is its biggest daily-life asset. The corridor has transformed into one of Austin's best restaurant rows, with Uchi, Bufalina Due, Barley Swine, and dozens of other acclaimed spots within a short drive or bike ride. Northwest Recreation Center on Shoal Creek provides aquatic programs, sports leagues, and community events. Schools fall within Austin ISD, with well-regarded options including Lee Elementary, Lamar Middle School, and McCallum High School. The neighbourhood's flat terrain and quiet streets make it popular with families who value bike-to-school convenience. Allandale's greatest strength is also its most understated quality: it's a neighbourhood that works. The commute is manageable, the schools are good, the restaurants are close, and the trees are tall. In a city that's constantly chasing the next big thing, Allandale's steadiness feels like a quiet luxury.
